Housaku means good harvest, and it is a very productive Japanese hybrid cucumber producing more than 90% of female flower. Fruits are smooth skin, dark green color with good flavor making it ideal for both pickling and fresh use. Best when harvested 8-9" long. Disease resistance to Target Leaf Spot, Glay Mold, Downy mildew. Good for open field and greenhouse growing. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring/early summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Or start seeds indoors and transplant when weather warms. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Optimum growing temperatures are 75°F daytime and 60°F at night. Train to climb a vertical support for better air circulation, straighter fruits, and ease of harvest. The flesh is very crisp, firm, and mostly eaten fresh. About 1100 seeds/ounce.
