  • Vintage Purex Bottle, Duraglas Amber Brown Glass Bottle, Purex Bleach Bottle, Stippled Bottom, C-2, Laundry Room Decor, Bottle Collectors,  Mid Century Old Glass Bottle, Vintage Advertising Collectibles, (Discontinued)
  • Made in Huntington, WV, USA
  • Vintage: 1960's - 1970's
  • Details:  This old Purex bleach bottle is in wonderful shape!  Perfect decor for a laundry room or country kitchen.  The bottle is a rich dark amber glass with the name embossed in a large font: "PUREX", on two sides.  The name Duraglas is also embossed in cursive on two sides of the bottle.  The use of the "Duraglas" logo, was discontinued in 1964, however, some bottles in the 1970's still had the logo.  Also helping us date this bottle is the bottom stippling that started in the 1940s, by the 1970's they began using other forms of stippling.  The plant code here is C-2, which we  believe is from the Huntington West Virginia plant. All these things helps us date the bottle, however, we are not experts, if the date is very important to you, please do your own research.  We have not cleaned it because many like the look of the original patina as found, however, this one is not very dirty at all.
  • Material:  Glass
  • Dimensions:  10.0 inches Tall, 3.25 inches in Diameter (at base)
  • Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Very Good Vintage Condition.  There are no chips, or cracks on this piece.  It is dirty, however, some collectors prefer it this way so we did not clean it.  There are some light surface scratches , very minor, acceptable due to age/use/wear.  Please make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  All sales final.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.

Purex was started by Lionel S. Precourt and his son, Ray, in 1922.  Originally making the bleach in their own garage in Los Angeles, California.  They expanded the product line in 1946, introducing a dry detergent brand, Trend.  Through the years they acquired several companies like:  Old Dutch Cleanser (1955). Manhattan Soap Company (1956), The Campana Company (1962), and that same year they merged with the Brillo Manufacturing Company.  The mergers continued with:  A. E. Staley, (1981), a food and households products mfg. co.  In 1985, the household and consumer products side of the Purex Industries business was acquired by Greyhound Corporation, which combined it with Greyhound's Armour-Dial to form The Dial Corporation. Unfortunately, in the 1990s, Dial discontinued the Purex Bleach product.
